Identify the extrema on the mountain ranges defined by functions, and take out the enemy terrorists who are hiding there.
The snowfall is too heavy to see the mountains, or the peak where the enemy is, but we have mapped this range before, and it looks like the function:
f (x) = -2x2 + 3
Where is the max point? (Hint: use the First Derivative Test.)
Heavy snowfall again. Take out any snipers on peaks first, then those in any valleys. The mountain range looks like the function:
f (x) = 2x3 - 3x2 - 12x + 10
Where are the max and min points? (Hint: use the First Derivative Test.)
Heavy snowfall still. Take out any snipers on peaks first, then those in any valleys. The mountain range looks like the function:
f (x) = ex - x - 4
Where are any max and min points? (Hint: try the Second Derivative Test.)
Heavy snowfall still. Take out any enemies - in the peaks and valleys. The mountain range looks like the function:
f (x) = x3 - 3x + 1
Where are the max and min points? (Hint: use the First or Second Derivative Test.)
